Still kings in the north
The Central Coast Sharks have downed the Newcastle Kings 8-6 in a hard fought round three clash of the Gridiron New South Wales competition. An early touchdown and two point conversion to Eamonn John Akamarmoi looked to be the first score of many for the men in orange but instead wound up being all they would need to secure their first win of the season. The Kings struck in the fourth quarter with a touchdown, brining the scores to 8-6 but once again the Sharks defence stood up when it needed to, forcing an incompletion on the ensuing two point attempt. The game was dominated by both defences as takeaways and tackles in the backfield were a constant all evening. Sam Ross and Josh Taylor had four intercepts between them, preventing the deep ball almost every time it was thrown, while Rhett Tos and Mitchell James Higgins wreaked havoc in the Kings' backfield, blowing up a lot of their running plays. This brings Central Coast's record to 1-1-1 and sets them up well for finals contention in 2017. Special thanks to Tim Robens, Luke Charles and the rest of the behind-the-scenes men who worked to make this fixture possible. Next Saturday, the Sharks will travel to Sydney to face the UTS Gators in what should be another nail biter. #SharkUp
